Redwood Off Road Club McGrew Trail Run and Campout November 14th 15th 2009
We had 5 rigs on the McGrew run. Chris & Cody Carlotti, Steve & Maureen Freeman, Paul & Matt Adams with our Jeeps, Jason Dodds with a Toyota Forunner and Clark & Donna Bowen with their Defender 90.
Our group met up with Clark at Obrien about 11am. A quick fuel stop a snack and we were off to the trail. We nearly missed the trailhead as they had rocked and coned the entrance. We aired down at the trailhead and proceed to the first obstacle which was a large rock. The recent rain made it a bit more challenging; we all took either a strap or a push to make it over or around. Our next challenge was a short rutted uphill section around a large rock. Steve, Chris and Clark took the challenging line and were stopped at 10 ft from the top; a tug with the straps brought them the rest of the way. They were all rewarded for their efforts with a bit of rockrash. Paul and Jason went to the other side of the rock without issue. The next opportunity for excitement came with an uphill sluice section that on a dry day would have no problem. Today it would provide entertainment. With multiple attempts each we conquered this section and then had lunch. From there we continued on though the section that had burned in a forest fire a few years back. We even had a few inches of snow to drive through. Darkness was approaching quickly. We played in the last sluice section for a bit and then made haste to the Forest Service Road where Jason and Clark headed back to Highway 199 to return home that evening. Steve, Paul and Chris set up their camps in the dark at the north bend campground. After dinner and a warm up around the fire it was an early bedtime. Sunday Morning Steve built a large fire. It was 33 degrees and a bit chilly. We did a walk of the local area and then headed out. We aired up at Rowdy Creek and headed out separate ways. Chris developed a bit of death wobble in his Jeep and found a suspension component that was no longer welded together. Steve made short work of the repair with his welder.
Another great run and campout! On to the next!
